The Dark Globe – Winter Is Coming… Game of Thrones In Review

by darkjade68

“Once Upon a Time… In Another World… Seven noble families fight for control of the mythical land of Westeros.”

It’s funny, My Brother has been telling me for months “You’ve got to see Game of Thrones man”… Granted, I’ve wanted to see it ever since I heard of its Existence, but it simply came down to, I didn’t have HBO.

But good News, with the coming of the New HBO Series called “Luck”, staring Dustin Hoffman… We in this household decided, not having HBO any longer, simply wasn’t going to work, lol

Now, Season 1 of this show is actually through, but I believe Season 2 starts in something like April.

And after watching the Full Season, which is 10 Episodes, over a 3 day period, I can simply say this…

“Dark, Bold, Beautiful and Robust”…

Take it for what it’s worth, I simply Love this Series.

Then again I’m not really surprised… As, like my Brother kept saying, “This is something that I could have seen you Writing”.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I’m near the Writer that David Benioff, George R. R. Martin and D.B. Weiss (The Three Shows Writers) appear to be…

But any Story with something called “The Nights Watch” in it, is definitely right up my alley of Interest.

You might guess this, as my Childhood Novel that I began Writing at the age of 11 or 12-ish, was called “One Knight”.

Moving on…

The Story;

This Story, is a very, very long and complicated one, and I don’t want to give certain things away, as some of you may end up watching it at some point.

The White Walkers;

Our Story begins North of the Great Wall (which is basically a ridiculously Huge Wall of Ice) when a few of the “Nights Watch” run into some trouble with what are called “White Walkers”.

Bottom line, you don’t want to mess with these things, and they are most likely a sign, that Dark Times are coming… Or what they call in the Show, “A Long Winter”…

From what I could gather, and now keep in mind I’ve only watched this once, and there’s a lot to it, from time to time in this world the sky turns black for sometimes up to three years… But what you come to find out during this Series is, “A Longer Winter than they’ve ever known” is on its way. And in it, all sorts of Nasty and Powerful things are likely to Rise North of the Great Wall.

The Nights Watch;

And it’s the “Nights Watch’s” sworn duty to Defend the Wall, which is basically there to Protect the 7 Kingdoms to the South of it.

Winterfell; and The Starks

In the Northern Land (or Kingdom maybe) of Winterfell, the Northern Lord Eddard “Ned” Stark (Sean Bean), a Soldier that has often served the King… As there is just one King that Rules all of the 7 Kingdoms of Westeros (Confused yet? you will be, lol), raises his 6 Children, one of which is a Bastard Son…

The Lannisters;

They receive a visit from King Robert, who is married to Cersei Lannister, and her brothers Jaime Lannister, and Tyrion Lannister.

Now Cersei Lannister is frankly, very not nice, lol

She’s basically the Darkest Character in the Show.

Now Jamie Lannister, her Brother, is basically the Best Swordsman you will come across in the 7 Kingdoms…

However, of course, he is one “Evil” not nice guy, much like his Sister.

Her other Brother Tyrion, is very much treated as something lower because he is a Dwarf…

However, he surely makes the best of his situation.

Kings Landing;

Now King Robert has traveled for a month to request that Lord Stark return with him back to “Kings Landing”, which is basically where the King Rules from, to be “The Hand” of the King…

Basically The Strong Arm of the King. And being that King Robert is a Drunken Fool, he basically wants his old friend Eddard “Ned” Stark to run things for him, while he’s off Drinking and sleeping with woman.

The Targyens;

Meanwhile East of Kings Landing, Across “The Narrow Sea”, Viserys Targaryen has different plans…

Calling himself “The Dragon”, as apparently the Targryens have something to do with when there were Actual Dragons in the world, he looks to merry his Younger Sister

Daenerys Targaryen off to a Barbarian Leader named Khal Drogo, in order to use him and his army to travel across the Narrow Sea, and take Rulership of the 7 Kingdoms…

Phew… Got all that?

Good, cuz that’s all you’re going to get from me, lol

As, like I say, this is a Very Long and Complicated Story, and I’m sure I’ve made a mistake or two along the way… But, I think it’s enough to give you the General Gist of the Story.

The Characters;

Eddard “Ned” Stark (Sean Bean); Sean Bean is, as usual, Outstanding as Lord Eddard “Ned” Stark. He alone is worth watching this first season.

John Snow/Ned’s Bastard Son (Kit Harington); John Snow is one of my Three Favorite Characters. I really, really look forward to seeing how his Character Develops on Season Two.

Tyrion Lannister (Peter Linklage); Also one of my Three Favorite Character, I would have to say he’s The Best Actor on this Show… Save maybe Sean Bean who is equally Strong. But this Character is Brilliant, and this guy by far makes the whole Series worth watching just to see him. (He’s also been collecting a bunch of Awards for this Role).

Arya Stark (Maisie Williams); I’m showing you my Favorite Characters first, lol… And Arya is definitely one of my Three Favorite Characters. I have not included Sean Bean’s Character in my Top Three, though I do love his Role… I did however put him at the Top of this List anyway, lol

But Arya, Tyrion and John Snow are definitely my Three Favorite Characters in this Story.

Robb Stark (Richard Madden); Ned Stark’s Eldest Son. This guy is a Good Actor, and I really like his Character.

Cersei Lannister/The Queen (Lena Headey); Though I generally don’t care for this Actress, she does a very Strong Job in this Role.

Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke); Emilia does a Fine Job in this Role, but I’d have to say it’s the Character that I really like.

Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau); This guys is Great as the Dark Golden Warrior… Love the Character, and he does a good job portraying it.

Viserys Targaryen (Harry Lloyd); This guy is great… Great Character, Strong Acting.

There are a whole lot more Characters in this Series, and many of their Performances are Good… But that’s all that I will list here. These are pretty much my Favorite Characters in the Show, save the Queen who I’m listing only because she did a good job. But I don’t like her, lol.

Overall Rating;

I very much like this Series. If you’re looking for a Dark Tale of Courage, Heroes, Treachery and Woe, you’ve come to the right place.

I’ll go ahead and give this Series a 8.75/10.

Thanks for Reading/Listening
